Earthquake Hit West Sumatera, No Tsunami Warning

Padang, (10/1) / An earthquake hit Pesisir Selatan, West Sumatera, Indonesia on Monday, January 9th 2017 at 18:28 local time with a magnitude of 5.3. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 69 km. The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) state that the quake had no potential to trigger a tsunami. BMKG also state that until Tuesday (10/1) at 09:00 local time, there is no aftershock that affected the area. The epicenter of the quake is on sea, therefore no damage happen because the quake. The quake was felt for about 5-10 seconds and affected areas are Pesisir Selatan, Padang, Pariaman, Padang Panjang, Bukittinggi, Dharmasraya, Tanah Datar, Solok, Tua Pejat and Mentawai. (kd)
