Kegiatan YMC-CSO 2021 Field Campaign (8 Januari-8 Maret 2021)

YMC-CSO 2021 (Years of the Maritime Continent - Cold Surge Observation 2021) merupakan fase kedua dari rangkaian kegiatan YMC fase pertama yang telah selesai dilakukan pada tahun 2017-2020. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan atas dasar kerjasama antara Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG) yang diwakili oleh Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan (Puslitbang) beserta dua Stasiun Meteorologi Soekarno-Hatta dan Pangkal Pinang dengan Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). Fokus utama kegiatan YMC-CSO tahun 2021 ini adalah melakukan Intensive Observing Period (IOP) yang dapat mencakup fenomena atmosfer di wilayah maritime continent. IOP YMC-CSO 2021 bertujuan untuk mengamati proses modifikasi massa udara pada saat cold surge, convection development, dan pada saat cuaca buruk.

Kegiatan IOP mengenai pengamatan Radiosonde ini dilakukan secara intensif di Stasiun Meteorologi Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) dan Stasiun Meteorologi Pangkal Pinang (PGK) dan dilakukan empat kali dalam satu hari (Jam 00, 06, 12, dan 18 UTC) di kedua stasiun meteorologi tersebut. Sebagai tambahan, di Stasiun Meteorologi Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), balon yang digunakan pada saat pengamatan di jam 06 UTC memiliki ukuran yang lebih besar (600 gram) dari ukuran balon yang digunakan pada pengamatan rutin (350 gram). Diharapkan dengan kondisi balon yang lebih besar, maka data observasi pada ketinggian lebih dari 25 km dapat diperoleh, sehingga data tersebut nanti nya dapat digunakan untuk menginvestigasi struktur gelombang yang susah dideteksi pada pengamatan yang dilakukan secara rutin.
