BMKG Goes Mobile Through iOS and ANDROID

Jakarta/ BMKG launched its new mobile IOS and Android application for weather, air quality and earthquake information, making it easier and quicker for the public to access the information. Director General for the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Andi Eka Sakya, launched this application during the closing ceremony of the commemoration of the 69^th National Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Anniversary and the 71^st Indonesian Independence Days, 25 August 2016, at BMKG headquarter.

In 2012, BMKG has already launched the first version of its weather application on android. This application has been downloaded by more than 700.000 users. Compared to the first version, this second version has more comprehensive and innovative features, to make the public more comfortable in accessing and understanding the information disseminated by BMKG through this application.

At a glance, these applications will allow the public to get the information on weather forecast up to three days lead time, based on geographical location in Indonesia region. These mobile applications also provide official national weather warning and earthquake warning that are updated regularly. These applications are available from App Store and Google Play Store.

"The BMKG apps will be a fantastic way for the public to acquire weather forecast and earthquake information in their palm," said Dr. Andi Eka Sakya.

In addition, BMKG also provide relevant glossaries to facilitate user in understanding the meteorological, climatological and geophysical terminologies. These applications are also part from BMKG open data policy. (kd)
