Launching of the Years of the Maritime Continent Research Campaign 2017-2019

On 17 July 2017, the YMC research campaign for the period of 2017-2019 has officially inaugurated by the Director General of the Agency for Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), Dr. Andi Eka Sakya, at BMKG Headquarter Office in Jakarta. One of the YMC Scientific Steering Committe, Dr. Kunio Yoneyama from JAMSTEC was attending this one day meeting, along with representatives from national stakeholders involved and the media. In total, there were over 70 people from BMKG, BPPT (Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology), LAPAN (National Institute of Aeronautics and Space), LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences), RISTEKDIKTI (Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education), KKP (Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries), ESDM (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources), ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology), IPB (Bogor Agricultural University), ITERA (Sumatera Institute of Technology ), and Indonesian Ministry of Defense.

This important event was not only marking the start of the campaign itself, it was also serving as the national media outreach for the significance of this close research collaboration in weather-climate-oceanic research in the Maritime Continent. At the end of the event, a tour to YMC local secretariat office at BMKG HQ was made and the first meeting for the preparation of the upcoming activity was conducted inside the office.
