History
Padang Panjang Geophysics Station was built in 1975 and began operation on January 17, 1976 are located in bath Lubuk Mata Kucing Padang Panjang
The reason for the establishment of Geophysics Station West Sumatra in Padang Panjang is that after doing a survey in all areas of West Sumatra was only in Padang Panjang area there are rocks (bad rock) the right to place sensors Seismograph, also to commemorate the date of June 26, 1926 earthquake that occurred in Padang The length of that cause many casualties, both life and property.
1975 was the beginning of the development of equipment, especially equipment Seismograph BMG which is the result of cooperation with UNESCO. Installing the SPS-1 Seismograph equipment Kinematrics conducted by Drs. R.P. Soedarmo and Br. Sumarso. As the Observer first stationed in Padang Panjang Geophysics Station is Br. Sumarso (Observer Geophysical Year of 1975).
In 1984 established the Office of Geophysical Station in Silaing Bottom line with the addition of meteorological observation equipment in 1995 to complement the activities of observation in Padang Panjang Geophysics Station.
In 1993 the equipment started to be renewed by installing Seismograph Seismograph 3 (three) components of the SPS-3, so that with this equipment in Padang Panjang Geophysics Station can determine the parameters of the earthquake, although still simple.
In 1998 the cooperation BMG and the Government of Japan, also installed equipment Broadband Seismograph "JISNET" and the equipment is expected to be optimized by the station in order to provide information services to the public in the future.
Regional Seismic geophysical station to Centre or Regional Seismic Center VI in 2006. Along with that much additional equipment is installed at the station seismic geophysics including LIBRA server, WinSDR, ONYX, RANET. To support the operations on the internet installation in 2007. The following year the addition of seismic equipment is always carried out, including: ComP3 software, Accelerograph, Mini Regional, Lighting Detector.
