Duties and Functions of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has the status of a non-departmental government agency, led by a Director. BMKG is charged with carrying out governmental activities in the area of Meteorology, Climatology, Air Quality and Geophysics in accordance with the provisions of applicable law. In carrying out the duties referred to above, BMKG performs the following functions:
  • The formulation of national policy and public policy in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The formulation of technical policy in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The coordination of policies, plans and programs in the area of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The implementation, monitoring and control of observations, and processing of data and information in the area of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • Data and information services in the area of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The transmission of information to agencies and stakeholders and the public about climate change
  • The transmission of information and early warnings to the government and the public about natural disasters caused by meteorological, climatological, and geophysical factors
  • The promotion of international cooperation in the areas of meteorology climatology and geophysics
  • The implementation of research, assessment, and development in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The implementation, development, and coordination of instrumentation, calibration, and communications networks in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The implementation of education and skills training and government management in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The implementation of professional education in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The implementation of data management in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
  • The management of properties / assets which have become the responsibility of BMKG
  • The delivery of reports and official recommendations in the areas of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics
