The amount of soil water available to plants is governed by the depth of soil that roots can explore (the root zone) and is classified into three categories, respectively:

1. Sufficient : soil water availability > 60 %
2. Moderate: soil water availability 40 % - 60 %
3. Deficit: soil water availability < 40 %
